LOADS OF AWESOME INFORMATION!

Starting the day!

We started our first day with classroom instruction and a detailed break down of radio types, importance, and different modes for different applications. We answered a multitude of participant questions and gave detailed explanations on how radio communications play a vital role in emergency preparedness.

Expert Instruction!

505JTF team communication lead, Kyle “Larp”, gave expert advice and instruction to classroom attendees with more complex and in depth questions. Radio can be complicated for some! But with good practice, and easy to understand instruction, you to can become a radio pro!

GMRS 1 on 1 practice!

Here we got to break the classroom into different sections. Some got to go outside and learn about HF operations and even make contacts with other stations around the country! While others remained inside and had the opportunity to practice proper radio etiquette on GMRS frequencies through the Retevis RT97L GMRS Repeater!

HF and Beyond Line of Site Radio practice!

In this exercise student were given the opportunity to practice HF (High Frequency) operations and make contacts across the country! Students made several contacts with other amateur radio operators including a observatory located in southern Texas.

Kyle “Larp”, set up his portable manpack along with a long-wire antenna and portable mast. Students were given instruction on how to set this radio up and then were shown how to “hunt” and find contacts on specific radio frequencies. Showcasing the resiliency and raw power of HF communications in emergency settings with limited equipment.
